Welcome To The District Of Chalk Farm, NW1

The urban district of Chalk Farm is located in the northwest part of the capital, within the London Borough of Camden and the NW1 postcode area. It is located north of Camden Town, equally split between the Haverstock (north) and Camden Town and Primrose Hill (south) electoral wards.

The land of Chalk Farm steeply slopes upwards toward the north-west and forms Primrose Hill in the southwest part.

The area was first known as Chalcot, a hamlet of the Hornsey parish. The villages of St Pancras and Hornsey were where most of the residents of Primrose Hill were divided in the period preceding the development of 1791.

The closest underground station in the area is Chalk Farm tube station (Edgware branch) on the Northern line. It is situated between Belsize Park (north) and Camden Town (south). It is ranked among the busiest stations on this particular branch of the Northern line. The station was opened in 1907, and features a wedge-shaped form that has the longest frontage.

Haverstock School is one of the notable comprehensive schools in the area. It is just opposite of Chalk Farm tube station. The school underwent a major redevelopment in 2006 and is often regarded as outstanding.
